Fresh Air Sculpture is a biennial sculpture exhibition held in the expansive organic garden of The Old Rectory in the Cotswold village of Quenington. The show affords a unique opportunity to see a creative mixture of traditional, modern and cutting-edge sculpture in this stunning outdoor setting. The Old Rectory gardens offer vast lawns joined by a bridge over the River Coln. There are hidden walkways, delightful pergolas, stunning flower beds and impressive vegetable gardens and greenhouses.

An exhibition of works Katharina made in response to her research trip to Japan last year. Her findings include new colours new patterns and new shapes that illustrate the outcome of the exciting journey. The show is the concluding event of her Arts Council England-funded project that took Katharina to Japan.

I was commissioned to make a limited edition of bowls in three designs. Each of them was made as a take on Lucie Rie’s work, her pots being one of my constant inspirations for my making. A numbered edition of 50 pieces per design.

It will be available alongside the Kettles Yard exhibition about her creative output over her lifespan.

MONOCHROME is a cross-genre exhibition that highlights the subtleties of line, mark, form and texture. With work by over twenty contemporary makers, the exhibition looks beyond colour and considers what we would generally term the opposite: all the nuances between the polarities of black and white.

Unfortunately in the light of the government’s announcement this week regarding a change in guidance around Coronavirus, we are unable to proceed with both Oxford Ceramics Fairs. 

This Autumn, back by popular demand, Watts Ceramics will be returning to Watts Contemporary Gallery, in a celebration of pottery's long tradition here at the Artists' Village.

This group ceramics show will feature a dozen leading ceramicists and demonstrate the diversity of contemporary practice. Work will include terracotta, stoneware, earthenware and porcelain.

The exhibition will be held in two parts and will focus on natural phenomena and activities that are frequently personal in terms of our physical impact on the environment through more commercial concerns like horticulture, farming and tourism. Looking at the structures that support the diversity of native flora and fauna alongside a highly maintained version of the countryside and our place within it.

A Fine Balance serves to alert us to our own social context and how significant that is in our outlook toward ‘the great outdoors’. Artists and makers will use current attitudes as well as depictions of the recent past that reveal our encounters with the natural landscape. It is through finding a variety of visualisations that we arrive at a greater understanding of the different claims made upon our immediate environment.

ABOUT CONTEMPORARY AND COUNTRY

Contemporary and Country (C&C) is a new initiative presenting contemporary art and the handmade by established artists and makers based in the east of England. C&C will hold regular pop-up exhibitions in non-gallery spaces and we will be introducing selected work by international creatives based in rural locations. Their work will be displayed in stimulating settings to suit an informed audience, who look beyond the passing trend.

It’s been three years since our show ‘A Fine Line’, that I curated. The current ceramic show echoes the 2017 exhibition and show some fantastic work by many of the makers from back then.

Due to the Corona Pandemic, it had to move online, but the team of CCA has risen to the challenge and realized a brilliant exhibition that is accessible to all.

“The Space In Between” brings to the gallery a sophisticated exhibition of ceramic vessels by the much-revered and sought-after Katharina Klug. This is a show which plays with juxtaposing shapes, form and line and places these individual parts within the context of a larger installation work. It a show too, which sees the boundaries between craftsmanship and artistic expression grow hazy.

Featuring work by some of the UK's top makers: Wendy Farley; Neal French; David Gee; Peter Hayes; Katharina Klug; Emily Myers; and Antonia Salmon.

There will be a special Festive Viewing on Sunday 1st December from 11am - 4pm with light refreshments. All welcome.

‘ROOM’ CURATED BY PETER SALTER - The exhibition at the Twenty Twenty Gallery in Ludlow is unusual in that it shows works by architects and photographers in conjunction with artists, ceramicists and textile makers. The focus of the work was the relationship between materiality, softness of light and the domestic environment, all of which are reflected in this exhibition. Currently, along with Fenella Collingridge, we have installed a furniture piece at the Venice Biennale based on the given theme of Freespace. This project explores the “absurd machine” as introduced by Marcel Duchamp – our absurd machine being a moving seat for an infatuated couple, mechanically reacting to the couple’s body language.
